6:57 pm - ME HAVES JOB
Well it's just a short-term contract. And it's sysadmin, not development. BUT it's likely to be a permanent job in a couple weeks. It'll be me or someone else that gets hired permanently, and the fact that I got the contract does give me the inside track on the perm job. This is very very good!

I've been carrying around an expired drivers license for the last 8 months and all this time I could have renewed it online! Sweet, one more line I don't have to stand in. Hooray for Texas DPS!

3:32 pm - losing wife faction points
Went to the hair stylist today. Stylist suggested that he bleach my hair completely. I've wanted to do this for some time, but my wife hasn't liked the idea... but since the idea came from my stylist, not from me, I'm like "SURE!"

I love the way it looks, came out much lighter than I thought it would, totally platinum. But my lovely wife just gave me very icy tones when I told her about it... she hasn't seen it yet, but I think I'm in trouble. At least we have the same stylist so she can aggro on him when she goes in next time instead of me getting the exclusive benefit of her ire.

Well maybe she'll change her mind when she actually SEES it.

So should I have said no when the stylist brought up the idea, seeing as my wife had expressed her dislike for this potential style on me before? Or should I in fact be guilt-free about bleaching out my hair?

I'm not sure that I'm actually interacting with anyone any more than I was, but for some reason this LJ thing is starting to grow on me. I'm definitely liking the medium much more than I was a few weeks ago.

4:11 pm - Yikes
I love Penny Arcade. Considering how much time I waste playing computer and video games, this is not surprising. But I came across something they've drawn that has me a little bit faux-concerned: a cartoon icon of one of their friends and frequent contributor, Batjew. It looks almost exactly like my mental self-image, minus the purple hair:
Trebor's Doppelganger??

I can only hope that poor Mr. Batjew doesn't actually look like me, or that icon, IRL.

9:18 pm - Old houses - cool, but PAINFUL
Sometimes old houses are THE SUCK. Take for instance, the usually simple procedure of replacing the handle on the front door. I removed the handle, only to find that the hole bored through the door was not only non-standard in being too small, it was also fucking oblong instead of a circle.

Now I've got a new secure handle on the door with a fucking gaping hole underneath until I go get some wood putty and patch it up, and then repaint the door.

Nothing in this house is standard!

And I am a bad do-it-yourself because I start swearing and throwing things after a mere 5 minutes of frustration. And now we're too broke to hire professionals to do this shit for us.

But it's our house goddammit, ours!

Still laying peel and stick tile in the kitchen. Damn it takes FOR FUCKING EVER to do the edges. I spent 2 hours last night and layed like 4 or 5 edge tiles.

titsy dropped by to see our house yesterday. But of course I wasn't there! Doh!

6:48 pm - Weird dream week
Whenever I back down on my meds (which I keep trying to do, seeing as I would like to be able to orgasm without requiring 42 continuous hours of humping -- whatever fucking demonic power that decided the most effective anti-OCD meds would smash my libido into tiny pieces deserves to be assfucked by the undead corpse of Andre the Giant.) Oops. Long parenthetical rant there. Let's try again -- Whenever I back down on my meds, my dreams get seriously weird. My dreams are getting progressively weirder and weirder this week. Now I'm not going to bore all .025 people who read my journal with descriptions of my goofy dreams, but if anyone knows a good Jungian therapist I've got some wacky shit for them to analyze...

What could they possibly be thinking?? Don't know how long they've been running them, I just caught one on TV last night, but damn! it was embarrassingly bad.

Finally replaced my dog-chewed cell phone with a new one. So now I'm reachable at all times again. Bleh. I pretty much liked not having a cell phone. Remind me why these things are considered good again?

Sand. Clean. Paint. Sweat. Paint. Paint.
Painting is the suck. But at least I'm painting my own damn house and not someone else's.

Our crazy Labrador, who loves to swim and has fur that sheds water like a duck, has suddenly decided that she doesn't like to go out in the rain. This dog used to go stand out in a downpour no problem. And she will swim endlessly. She is peeing on the rug by the dog door instead of going out into the rain, and hiding in her kennel when I call her from the back yard! What a goof. Glad it doesn't rain too much here.

10:04 am - our soon to be new neighbors
On one side: couple of guys, one's a techie on his 10th(!) startup, the other is lawyer. Both of them own silver Volkswagen's hehe. Cute. On the other side, another one-L Michele, with a big dog. Good to have friendly neighbors....

2:41 pm - hardwood floors
It'll cost $3000+ to refinish the hardwoods in our house professionally, and no-one seems to be available to do it before we need to move in. I'm pondering whether we should tackle the job ourselves, but I know it's back-breaking work.... already, the joys of home ownership!

10:09 am - Hashcode is.... (stolen from titsy)
Soom Google searches on "hashcode is":

A hashcode is intended to be an integer that uniquely identifies the value of an object.
I have read that the hashCode is in fact the physical address of the object.
A hashcode is a kind of checksum.
A requirement of implementing hashCode() is that the hash value of an object must be synchronized with equality.
Hashcode is quicker, no prints, no files.

"Trebor is" is much funnier:

Trebor is prepared to provide services in whatever manner requested.
Trebor is well poised to take advantage of the current market conditions...
Trebor is the second building on the left.
Trebor is Robert spelled backward, fyi.
Trebor is one of the handful of elite
Trebor is appropriately self-congratulatory and smarmy
Trebor is a human paladin, worshipper of Helm, the god of strength.
Trebor is the UK's biggest producer of mints
Trebor is a leader in high purity fluid handling products
Trebor is most proud of feeding and dressing himself
Trebor is the guy in the wolf man mask..and yes that is a bloody tampon hanging from his bottom jaw
Trebor is with you when you come
